SUMMARY:Fresh Thursday // La Tène + ANTONÍ
DESCRIPTION:Fresh Thursday is a weekly event where we serve you new and unusual live music alongside home cooked meal. \nWe created Fresh to encourage listeners to take a chance on artists they haven’t heard before & discover something completely new. You can expect great new & unusual music alongside a communal home-cooked meal in a relaxed\, seated atmosphere with candles and board games. The programme spans a wide range of genres well suited to a chilled Thursday evening\, with plenty of time to chat before and after performances. Occasionally there might be a little dancing at the edges! Lots of people come on their own and make friends and there is a choice of individual seats and communal tables.  \n\n  \nLa Tène has found the common denominator between the most stubborn rock and ancient – even very ancient – music\, whether traditional or not\, and brings it to a boil through still yet mesmerising performances. Exploring the cracks between tradition and experimentation\, between hypnotic drone and repeated gestures\, but this time they choose to move onto new ground: the hurdy-gurdy\, the group’s emblematic instrument since the very beginning\, disappears in favor of a stripped-down setup centered on two electronic percussions and live dub work. This is not a mere stylistic twist: it is about transforming a constraint into a creative drive. Alexis Degrenier\, long associated with the telluric sound of the hurdy-gurdy\, can no longer play it. Yet he remains\, above all\, recognized as a percussionist and composer. With his companions\, he decided to inscribe this transition into the very heart of their new album: a way of thumbing their nose at fate\, of turning a great and beautiful page\, and of reminding us that La Tène has always fed on accidents\, detours\, and bifurcations. \nANTONÍ combines poetic folk songwritng with cinematic arrangements\, blending contemporary folk\, chamber pop\, jazz and subtle electronic textures. Touring the UK as a duo with Norwegian composer and pianist Einar Stray (Einar Stray Orchestra\, Mildfire)\, she presents an intimate live set for voice\, guitar\, piano and synthesizers. Together they reinterpret songs from her debut album Holding Tight Lightly in a stripped-back yet immersive performance full of warmth\, atmosphere and sonic detail. \n\n  \nThese evenings are all about culture\, community and making new music accessible. If you’re able to choose a Cobalt Supporter ticket\, your extra contribution genuinely helps us continue to deliver these events.

SUMMARY:Fresh Thursday // 12V5 + Tim Shaw
\n\n  \n12V5 it’s a recycled weird experimental music and light show\, using 12volts motors and light bulbs\, and synthesyser. \nall hand made and home made\, improvising live making sounds textures and shadows around\, weird melodies and nervous rythmics. \n12V5 is a chilled and happy human\, based in south east france\, moving a lot\, through whatever could be a nice experience. \nTim Shaw will be performing ‘Points of Failure‘. Points of Failure is an ongoing series of concerts and installations in which miscellaneous objects and repurposed audio equipment is used to create an audiovisual performance-environment. \nBy using DIY electronics\, found objects\, light and sound making circuits\, the musical potential of everyday materials is explored in response to the architectural features of the performance space. Though field recording equipment is often used (e.g. hydrophones\, air pressure microphones\, electromagnetic coils etc) Points of Failure works entirely with live processes and no prerecorded sound material occurs during the performance. \n\n  \nThese evenings are all about culture\, community and making new music accessible. \n\n  \nClaire Vine is a folk singer and songwriter based in Machynlleth\, Wales. Her solo project fearlessly explores urgent themes of land rights\, oppression\, climate change and inequality\, in timeless songs that sound like they’ve always existed. Using subtle electronics to layer her voice into a haunting choir\, she creates a space for her listeners to collectively feel the grief expressed in her music\, offering a moment of shared catharsis. She is also a skilled song-interpreter\, delivering classics from the traditional/folk revival canon with a new and profound humanity. \nClaire Vine released her debut solo album We Carve Our Path on 13 March 2026 on Bristol-based community label Cuculi Records\, who also released her debut EP Tunnel in 2020. With a thread of unequivocal political urgency running throughout\, this evocative collection features five original songs and five highly inventive interpretations of songs drawn from the traditional canon and the repertoire of folk legends Peggy Seeger and Ewan MacColl. She has also recently been granted the DYCP grant from Arts Council England\, supporting her to develop her singing and songwriting craft alongside working on a series of collaborative song-writing workshops relating to climate justice and climate grief. \nClaire is a member of long-running psychfolk band Hands of the Heron\, contributing songs and arrangements to albums 13 Moons and Quiet Light\, and touring extensively at venues and festivals across the UK. She also collaborated with dronefolk project Woodfolk for their EP Oak\, and performs with respected vocal/percussion ensemble Tryani Collective. \nLuzy Huzzard – With one foot on the dancefloor at all times\, Lucy Huzzard brings a love of groove and dance music to her solo set\, interwoven with her songwriting of the personal and political. On melodeon and foot percussion\, her set promises to be a joyful\, soulful and groove-driven call to move your feet\, and lift your heart. \n\n  \nThese evenings are all about culture\, community and making new music accessible. SUMMARY:Fresh Thursday // Deradoorian + Silver Ley
\n\n  \nDeradoorian – Fusing elements of indie rock\, avant-garde electronic music\, dub\, and dance rhythms\, Deradoorian is the name Angel Deradoorian works under as a solo artist. She launched said solo career after making a name for herself as a member of Dirty Projectors and collaborating with artists such as Avey Tare and Flying Lotus. Her albums\, including 2015’s ‘The Expanding Flower Planet’ and 2020’s ‘Find the Sun’\, are cosmic song cycles informed by her spiritual journey. After collaborating with Kate NV under the name Decisive Pink on 2023’s heavily electronic ‘Ticket to Fame’\, Deradoorian added that sound to her already jam-packed approach on 2025’s ‘Ready for Heaven’. \n“Deradoorian’s voice is the main attraction. Wispy one moment\, bellowing full-throated the next\, and capable of dazzling melismatic runs\, it remains her not-so-secret weapon.” – Pitchfork \nEngaging with past musical glories helps deal with a major theme of this album; the awful nature of the world around us. Deradoorian: “This album is partly about watching humanity erode. It’s about mental struggle\, and it’s avowedly anti-capitalist. I mean; would we have all these identity labels we have to live by\, if we didn’t live in a capitalist world?” \nSilver Ley (fka. Bethany Ley) is a Bristol-based producer\, composer\, harpist and vocalist known for crafting intricate and ethereal arrangements that blend their classical background with electronic music. Originally trained in piano\, viola\, and voice\, Ley’s influences span classical\, folk\, and contemporary electronic music. \nTheir 2024 debut EP ‘Sundial’ released on Lo Recordings\, earned acclaim for its inventive blend of electronica and distinct ethereal vocals\, leading to a sold-out UK tour and gaining support from Gilles Peterson’s future bubblers programme and PRS Women Make Music. Ley has further supported Kae Tempest and Baths\, worked alongside collaborators Ishmael Ensemble\, Batu\, and Alabaster DePlume and has performed across major UK venues and international stages across Europe. \n\n  \nThese evenings are all about culture\, community and making new music accessible. SUMMARY:Fresh Thursday // Elf Traps + Shunya
\n\n  \nElf Traps is the new project from Manchester-based musicians Rob Turner (ex–GoGo Penguin) and Liviu Gheorghe (ex–Matthew Halsall) — a collaboration born from creative restlessness and deep friendship. \nAfter years inside the traditional frameworks of the music world\, both felt the need to follow instinct over expectation. So they stepped back — from their bands\, from the noise — and started again. With no plan and no genre in mind\, they began experimenting. What started as two friends jamming in a room evolved into something deeper: a hybrid system rooted in improvisation\, where acoustic drums\, analogue synths\, and laptops interact in real time. A space to explore sound without rules — vivid\, messy\, and completely their own. At first\, they weren’t thinking about audiences. But gradually\, they began sharing it — with friends\, in basements\, at warehouse parties and DIY spaces around Manchester. The response was real. Fellow travellers began to gather — drawn to the raw spirit at the project’s core. 808 State legend Graham Massey and instrument innovator Piotr Raczyński (Polyend) were among the first to catch on\, sharing their wisdom and encouraging the duo to stay true to their instincts. \nTheir sound blends spiritual jazz\, glitchy electronics\, jungle\, ambient\, and beyond —weaving influences from Squarepusher\, Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid\, Buddhism\, StarTrek\, and the vivid\, organic forms of artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Turner’s iconic\, glitch-inflected drumming merges with Gheorghe’s textural\, expansive synths to create a fresh\, immersive sonic landscape. Two musicians. One conversation. Infinite possibility \nShunya (Alan Keary) is a multi-instrumentalist and producer\, with a strong musical heritage\, writing and producing music from the age of fourteen. Performing under the alias Shunya\, his sound is a contortion of influences\, stemming from his background in classical violin and jazz bass\, and growing with the sounds of Manchester’s electronic music scene. \n\n  \nThese evenings are all about culture\, community and making new music accessible. If you’re able to choose a Cobalt Supporter ticket\, your extra contribution genuinely helps us continue to deliver these events.

Occasionally there might be a little dancing at the edges! Lots of people come on their own and make friends and there is a choice of individual seats and communal tables.  \n\n  \nSalt House have been a mainstay on the folk scene for over a decade. The band’s reputation as thoughtful and innovative interpreters of both ancient ballads and contemporary songs has been solidified with acclaimed album releases\, airplay and extensive touring. Described as a “gentle\, lulling delight” by The Guardian\, Salt House blend heartfelt vocal and instrumental interplay\, offering listeners a moment of reflection and connection. \nNew songs that sound like they’ve always been here\, ancient ballads woken up. Poems given melodies they’ve long deserved. \nSalt House’s sound is influenced by the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands\, Northumberland and Shetland\, the respective homes of band members Ewan MacPherson (vocals\, electric and acoustic guitars)\, Anna Hughes (vocals\, fiddle\, viola\, tenor guitar) and Jenny Sturgeon (vocals\, keys\, guitar). They incorporate their natural surroundings into the fabric of the music that speaks of a shared love of place\, people\, and evolving tradition. \nMaja Bugge & Dave Evans – Acclaimed cellist Maja Bugge (NO/UK) and award-winning pianist Dave Evans (UK) are touring new work grown from a collaboration which began in 2023 with the work SORTLAND. This was a musical exploration of memory and place that was commissioned by and first presented at Sortland Jazz festival that year. Taking inspiration from narratives around movement\, nature\, heritage\, location and belonging\, the work uses melody\, language\, and grooves and experiments with space\, stillness and repetition. At times joyful and playful\, and at others quiet and vulnerable\, this music is not afraid to go to the strangest or quietest of places. \n\n  \nThese evenings are all about culture\, community and making new music accessible.
