SUMMARY:DOGSHOW + Support
DESCRIPTION:Dogshow are 2 brothers traversing the astral planes of dance music – whilst dressed as poodles. These two full-bodied canine siblings are on a mission to create the ultimate party experience\, fusing live techno and rave with real instruments. \nPerforming in the middle of the audience on their battery powered Dog Trolley they conduct an animalistic ‘howling at the moon’ ceremony. Part space-age cabaret\, part canine cult— this is dance music at its most gloriously unhinged. \nSince forming after lockdown\, Dogshow have quickly risen as a word of mouth sensation with incredible reaction to their live shows and viral videos spreading far and wide on social media. They have performed on big festival main stages including Camp Bestival\, Glastonbury Shangri-la\, Boomtown and Shambala and have a growing reputation in Germany and wider Europe. \n‘Boiler Room meets Crufts on a trip to space’ \nJoin the spectacle and unleash your inner canine.

SUMMARY:Opus Kink + Support
DESCRIPTION:With their ever-mutating brand of jazz-and-country-laced punk\, Opus Kink have always cut a singular figure in a saturated landscape. Making their name with incendiary\, cult-like live shows\, the band – formed in Brighton (UK) in 2017 – have developed a sound as elusive as it is recognisable. Underscored by a formidable horn section and ragged\, sardonic delivery\, the band bear passing resemblance to post-punk and no-wave acts like The Pop Group\, Birthday Party and Lounge Lizards\, but it’s the weaving of older\, more traditional influences – choral\, folk\, country\, Latin\, Weimar cabaret\, cruise-ship-crooning – into the fabric of their music that sets them apart. Through their songs concerning violence\, evil\, shame\, troubled sexual politics\, anxiety and emptiness\, all served with a wry absurdist bent\, Opus Kink craft an alluring nether-world for their voracious audiences to plunge into. \nThey tore through the UK and Europe in the early years of the group and formed a reputation for intoxicating\, otherworldly carnage – broken ribs\, bloody microphones\, shamanic ritual and even a ruptured spleen were part and parcel of their touring show – as well as a fierce loyalty to the DIY and grassroots venues and heroes they encountered. While the narrative and spiritual world of Opus Kink underwent constant evolution\, the close relationships they fostered with underground music-world-denizens would inspire their philosophies and works along the way. Performances in Serbian abattoirs\, stadium complexes in Istanbul\, spur-of-the-moment DIY shows in Tyneside industrial estates and secret appearances crammed into the back of their local dive that quite literally brought the roof down – this adaptability and unconcern for career propriety carved out a place for Opus Kink in the hearts of rock’n’roll weirdos.

SUMMARY:Fresh Thursday // Elf Traps + Shunya
DESCRIPTION:Fresh Thursday is a weekly event where we serve you new and unusual live music alongside home cooked meal. \nWe created Fresh to encourage listeners to take a chance on artists they haven’t heard before & discover something completely new. You can expect great new & unusual music alongside a communal home-cooked meal in a relaxed\, seated atmosphere with candles and board games. The programme spans a wide range of genres well suited to a chilled Thursday evening\, with plenty of time to chat before and after performances. Occasionally there might be a little dancing at the edges! Lots of people come on their own and make friends and there is a choice of individual seats and communal tables.  \n\n  \nElf Traps is the new project from Manchester-based musicians Rob Turner (ex–GoGo Penguin) and Liviu Gheorghe (ex–Matthew Halsall) — a collaboration born from creative restlessness and deep friendship. \nAfter years inside the traditional frameworks of the music world\, both felt the need to follow instinct over expectation. So they stepped back — from their bands\, from the noise — and started again. With no plan and no genre in mind\, they began experimenting. What started as two friends jamming in a room evolved into something deeper: a hybrid system rooted in improvisation\, where acoustic drums\, analogue synths\, and laptops interact in real time. A space to explore sound without rules — vivid\, messy\, and completely their own. At first\, they weren’t thinking about audiences. But gradually\, they began sharing it — with friends\, in basements\, at warehouse parties and DIY spaces around Manchester. The response was real. Fellow travellers began to gather — drawn to the raw spirit at the project’s core. 808 State legend Graham Massey and instrument innovator Piotr Raczyński (Polyend) were among the first to catch on\, sharing their wisdom and encouraging the duo to stay true to their instincts. \nTheir sound blends spiritual jazz\, glitchy electronics\, jungle\, ambient\, and beyond —weaving influences from Squarepusher\, Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid\, Buddhism\, StarTrek\, and the vivid\, organic forms of artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Turner’s iconic\, glitch-inflected drumming merges with Gheorghe’s textural\, expansive synths to create a fresh\, immersive sonic landscape. Two musicians. One conversation. Infinite possibility \nShunya (Alan Keary) is a multi-instrumentalist and producer\, with a strong musical heritage\, writing and producing music from the age of fourteen. Performing under the alias Shunya\, his sound is a contortion of influences\, stemming from his background in classical violin and jazz bass\, and growing with the sounds of Manchester’s electronic music scene. \n\n  \nThese evenings are all about culture\, community and making new music accessible. If you’re able to choose a Cobalt Supporter ticket\, your extra contribution genuinely helps us continue to deliver these events.

SUMMARY:AROMA + Hey Remember This
DESCRIPTION:Drawing from spiritual jazz\, ambient pop\, Afroelectronic beats\, and world fusion\, AROMA creates immersive soundscapes that echo both ancestral rhythms and contemporary textures. If Floating Points\, Alice Coltrane\, and Fatoumata Diawara jammed in a sunlit Paris loft… it might sound like this. \nAROMA is the transcontinental electronic project of acclaimed pianist Aron Ottignon (Blue Note\, Stromae\, Baaba Maal) and sound alchemist Nane Kahle (Sonic Interventions). Blending Ottignon’s lyrical piano and Osmose synthesis with Kahle’s soulful vocals and organic\, ancestral rhythms\, the project\, refined by UK producer Seiji\, creates immersive music that sits at the intersection of spiritual jazz\, ambient experimentation\, and Afro-electronic sound. \nHey Remember This is a Genre-ambivalent\, semi-improvised\, nostalgia-resistant instrumental trio from Newcastle that seems to have come unstuck in time. \nAna-Louise Hammond (vibraphone) along with John Pope (electric bass) and Diji Solanke (drums)\, brings a set of new music that intersects somewhere between minimalism\, contemporary alt-folk\, and jazz. \nThis band can be characterised by a focus on texture and rhythm\, often exploring interlocking patterns or irregular time signatures. \nWhen we find ourselves assailed on all sides by demands to recollect The Old Days\, and to align our futures with imagined pasts\, Hey Remember This sets out a stall somewhere within the space of “What if we didn’t do that?”

SUMMARY:Fresh Thursday // Salt House + Maja Bugge & Dave Evans
\n\n  \nSalt House have been a mainstay on the folk scene for over a decade. The band’s reputation as thoughtful and innovative interpreters of both ancient ballads and contemporary songs has been solidified with acclaimed album releases\, airplay and extensive touring. Described as a “gentle\, lulling delight” by The Guardian\, Salt House blend heartfelt vocal and instrumental interplay\, offering listeners a moment of reflection and connection. \nNew songs that sound like they’ve always been here\, ancient ballads woken up. Poems given melodies they’ve long deserved. \nSalt House’s sound is influenced by the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands\, Northumberland and Shetland\, the respective homes of band members Ewan MacPherson (vocals\, electric and acoustic guitars)\, Anna Hughes (vocals\, fiddle\, viola\, tenor guitar) and Jenny Sturgeon (vocals\, keys\, guitar). They incorporate their natural surroundings into the fabric of the music that speaks of a shared love of place\, people\, and evolving tradition. \nMaja Bugge & Dave Evans – Acclaimed cellist Maja Bugge (NO/UK) and award-winning pianist Dave Evans (UK) are touring new work grown from a collaboration which began in 2023 with the work SORTLAND. This was a musical exploration of memory and place that was commissioned by and first presented at Sortland Jazz festival that year. Taking inspiration from narratives around movement\, nature\, heritage\, location and belonging\, the work uses melody\, language\, and grooves and experiments with space\, stillness and repetition. At times joyful and playful\, and at others quiet and vulnerable\, this music is not afraid to go to the strangest or quietest of places. \n\n  \nThese evenings are all about culture\, community and making new music accessible.
